The Orchid

These images were taken on the last day of the Orchid Show at the Muttart Conservatory here in Edmonton a couple of years ago. I never though myself much of a flower person as my spouse makes up for both of us in that category, however, over the years I must say I have come to appreciate a garden full of colourful blooms. We have a small deck at the back of the house and by this time of year flowers of all varieties are in full bloom all around the yard and hanging baskets are draped around the canvas covered gazebo on the deck. I like to think of it as my own little oasis. As far as Orchids are concerned, there are probably hundreds of varieties and in my humble opinion no other flower even comes close to an Orchid. As a bonus, at least for me, they seem to be the happiest flower of the lot. They look to me to have wide open arms and big happy faces.
